A 1/1250 scale metal model of Castel Nevoso, a refrigerated cargo ship of the 1950s & 60s. The ship entered service in 1937 as a Lufthansa catapult ship, Friesland, designed to act as a tender for seaplanes making long ocean crossings. Having survived the war, in 1950 she was bought by Vlasov (V-ships) and altered to a refrigerated cargo ship. Re-named Fairsky (1950-52) then Castel Nevoso and finally Argentina Reefer (1968), she was scrapped at Faslane in 1969.

A 1/1250 scale second-hand model of Frieden of 1957 by Mercator M902. Mercator modelled two of these Type VII freighters that were produced in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) in the late 1950s.The original plastic masts and derricks were missing or broken but they have been restored on this model, see photograph.

The ship is in medium grey with darker decks and very dark hatch covers. There is no contrasting boot topping, as recommended by the camouflage experts from 1942 to the end of the war.

Solent Models 1/1250 SOM 24b American Miller a United States Lines C2-S-B1 freighter 1948--69
American Miller was built by Moore Drydock Co. Oakland in 1943 and named Meteor. She was converted to a troop transport and sold to United States Lines  in 1948 who re-named her as American Miller. She travelled between the East Coast USA and ports in Western Europe between Hamburg and Bilbao with freight but with 12 passenger cabins. United States Lines sold her in 1969 and she was scrapped in Taiwan in 1973.

Helen Lykes started life in March 1944 as Defiance and was sold on after the end of WW2. In 1947, she was bought by Lykes Bros, SS.Co. of New Orleans and re-named after a family member. She worked from the Gulf to ports in Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, S. and E. Africa for the next 20 years. She was re-named as Salisbury after being sold but two years later, she broke down in the Seychelles and was scrapped in Singapore in 1970. The model is made by Solent Models, No. SOM24c.

Sooner State was completed after the end of WW2 as Wild Hunter but was sold to Pacific-Atlantic Steamship Co. in 1947 as Oregon. In 1957 she became Grace Lines Santa Victoria before joining States Marine Lines. This ship had the open bridge wings (see Lucille Bloomfield) in 1970, she was sold on as Reliance Dignity but was scrapped in 1971 in Taiwan.

A 1/1250 scale resin model of a Hansa A-type freighter by an unknown maker. The Hansa A-types were one of 3 types of standard freighter completed in Axis territories during  WW2 and over 40 ships of this type were completed during or shortly after WW2 survived the conflict and were operated in mercantile service through to the 1960s and 1970s. This model is in reasonable condition, see photograph.
