Solent Models 1/1250 SOM 24c Helen Lykes, Lykes Lines C2-S-B1 freighter 1947-67
Helen Lykes started life in March 1944 as Defiance and was sold on after the end of WW2. In 1947, she was bought by Lykes Bros, SS.Co. of New Orleans and re-named after a family member. She worked from the Gulf to ports in Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, S. and E. Africa for the next 20 years. She was re-named as Salisbury after being sold but two years later, she broke down in the Seychelles and was scrapped in Singapore in 1970. The model is made by Solent Models, No. SOM24c.
