Peco OO9 GR-530 Glyn Valley Tramway Type Guards' Brake and Luggage Van
Small 4-wheel coaches were the usual choice for narrow gauge railways, being well suited to the small gauge and sharp curvature of many of these lines.
This freelance model of a guards' brake and luggage van is based on the Glyn Valley Tramway coach design, so matches well with the GVT coaches and can also be used as a goods train brake van.

Many narrow gauge railways operated 'mixed' trains with goods wagons coupled behind the passenger coaches instead of running as a separate train. Board of Trade rules required a guard and brake van to bring up the rear of the train. Many lines purchased or converted a handbrake-fitted coach to serve in the brake van role.
Although the Glyn Valley brake vans, like the Corris brake van, were based on goods wagon construction other lines, like the tourist passenger oriented Vale of Rheidol, had guards vans with a more passenger coach outline and preserved lines have often built guards' brake vans with coach type body styling to match their passenger coaches.
