Peco OO9 GR-909 King Charles III Coronation Festiniog 4 wheel Bug Box Narrow Gauge Passenger Coach
A special edition of the Peco OO9 Festiniog Railway 'Bug Box' coach finished in a special commemorative livery top mark the coronation of HM King Charles III this coming May.
These coaches are typical of early Victorian era design with the body set low over a 4-wheel chassis to ensure stability. A number have been restored to service on the Festiniog Railway, making this coach an ideal commemorative item which will sit well in a train hauled by a Peco/Kato 'small England' engine.
These coaches were designed to have a low centre of gravity due to concerns over the stability of narrow gauge trains which were later proved to be unfounded, though the coaches remained in service to be preserved as a vintage train. The wheels are concealed completely by the low-set body with passengers seated back-to-back, the seats themselves sitting on the box enclosing the axles and axleboxes.
