Believed to be the fourth of the 1864 'Small England' class Palmerston was the first to be rebuilt into it's current form with saddle tank and cab in 1888. The engine was thoroughly rebuilt in 1910, but was in poor condition by late 1930s and considered beyond restoration in the early preservation era. Purchased privately from the FR restoration started in 1974, progressing slowly until with a new boiler, cylinders and wheels, Palmerston was returned to service in 1993.
Palmerston is a well traveled locomotive having been hired for the construction of the NWNGR/WHR in the mid 1870s and assisting on the Vale of Rheidol line on several occasions in the pre-grouping era. Since 1993 Palmerston has been used during the progressive re-opening the WHR, visited the Chemin de Fer des Chanteraines (Paris), Teifi Railway, National Railway Museum (York), Hollycombe Steam Collection (West Sussex), Llangollen Railway (on a temporary track), Kings Cross Station (London) and Bala Lake Railway. So there's good reasons for Palmerston to be arriving on any narrow gauge layout!
Produced by Kato in Japan these models feature very fine detailing and engineering, the diecast chassis unit, boosted by using the saddle tank to accommodate as much weight as possible, surrounds a motor and flywheel combination designed for smooth running even at slow speeds.

The Festiniog Railways' enlarged 'large England' locomotives were built in 1867. Slightly larger and more powerful than the earlier Prince and Princess the large saddle & side water tank arrangements were fitted from new.
This model finished in Southern Railway lined green livery and carrying the quite appropriate name of Exmoor Pony, has been imagineered by Peco for the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, adding to the Bachmann's imagineered L&B Baldwin 4-6-0 as alternative L&B motive power.

In 2010 a new locomotive based on the SR locomotive E188 was completed at Boston Lodge works for the Welsh Highland Railway. The number 190 has been used as this was the next vacant number in the Southern's numbering sequence and the locomotive named LYD following the L&B practice of using Devon river names.
The new locomotive has offered the opportunity to create new liveries these engines might have carried and this model depicts LYD as British Railways number 30190 in lined black livery with early lion over wheel emblem.

Built in 1867 Welsh Pony was the first of the Festiniog Railways' enlarged 'large England' locomotives, slightly larger and more powerful than the earlier Prince and Princess. Due to the declining fortunes of the slate industry after fired clay tiles became the most common roofing tiles Welsh Pony was withdrawn from service in 1939. Parts from the engine were used to restore Prince to service in the 1950s, the remains of Welsh Pony being stored in the yard behind Boston Lodge works for many years. Cosmetically restored for display at Pothmadog in 1984 serious restoration work commenced in 2013, returning Welsh Pony to service in 2020 finished in this distinctive Victorian era lined purple-brown livery.

Little Giant was the last of the Festiniog Railway George England built engines and the second of the 'large England' class along with Welsh Pony. Built new with the saddle and side tank and a front spectacle plate, a full cab was added when a new boiler was fitted in 1888. Little Giant did not survive into the preservation era, however several parts from this engine were used in the rebuilding of other England locomotives and the WW1 Baldwin diesel locomotive Moelwyn.
Little Giant is modeled in the Festiniog Railways maroon red livery.

The diminutive Baguley-Drewry marks Bachmann’s first foray into the world of narrow gauge diesels for the Bachmann Narrow Gauge OO9 scale range. These 70 horsepower machines were originally built for use at Royal Naval Armament Depots (RNAD) which employed narrow gauge networks to move armaments between storage locations and transhipment sites.

This model is brought to live by the livery application which uses authentic colours, logos and typefaces to portray a locomotive in heritage railway service, finished in the popular lined maroon livery which gives a much less utilitarian look then the more typical industry 'high visibility' colours. Several details are fitted separately, including the air filter mounted on top of the bonnet, headlights (non-functional) at the front and rear of the cab, windscreen wipers and, inside the cab, chairs and controls are modelled too.
