The ship was commissioned into the Royal Navy on the 23rd August 1974 and with over 40 years service has obviously been very successful. A varied career included an independent 2013 deployment to the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. Decommissing is due in 2016.

MTM042 is HMS Salisbury, the Royal Navy's Type 61 Cathedral Class, also known as the Salisbury Class, Aircraft Direction Frigate. She was launched in the 1950's and remained in service until she was sunk as a target in 1985. Prior to this, she was the harbour training ship in Devonport.
