BR built a considerable number of these low-sided flat wagons, the type proving very useful for a number of loads, particularly loads on their own wheels. The low sides provides some retaining capability, but the Lowfit lacked lashing rings, so were not supposed to be loaded with containers. In service containers were often secured by ropes around the buffer stocks. Later many lowfits were converted to twin bolster sets with semi-permanent bar coulpings between two wagons.
This kit builds a detailed model of the standard design Lowfit, BR diagram 1/002.
