Secondhand Mini-ships 1/1250 Deep C DC15 HM troopship Empire Ken in the 1950s
A 1/1250 scale second-hand waterline resin model of HM troopship Empire Ken from the 1950s by Deep C, DC15. This model is in very good condition, see photograph.
Empire Ken was built by Blohm & Voss, Hamburg for the German East Africa Line in 1928 and during WW2 she worked for the German State as an accommodation ship, a repair ship (in Norway, with the battleship Tirpitz), as a hospital ship and refugee transport until the end of the war. She was captured in Copenhagen in 1945 and became a British troopship after the war. Empire Ken was used to take troops to Egypt during the Suez Crisis and, along with another former German passenger liner, Empire Windrush (Ex-Monte Rosa) was used to bring immigrants from the Caribbean to Britain.
