Secondhand Mini-ships 1/1200 Superior 108J Tosa, Japanese Battleship as designed for completion after 1923
Tosa is a 1/1250 scale, waterline, metal model built from a kit by the previous owner. The model is in good condition and has a detailed mainmast and wood-effect painted decks which are not usually seen on Superior models (see photograph).
Tosa and Kaga were sister battleships from the Japanese WW1 8-8 plan. They were designed to be follow on ships to the Nagato-class ships but mounting 10x16in guns as the main armament. They were both under construction when Japan agreed that they would not be completed as designed because of the Washington Treaty. Japan agreed to the disarmament treaty when the other nations allowed her to complete Mutsu with 8x 16in guns making Japan one of only three nations with battleships with guns over 15in calibre prior to the start of WW2 in 1939. Tosa was launched as a trials and target ship and scrapped before the start of WW2 and Kaga was completed as an aircraft carrier when the Amagi (an Akagi-class battlecruiser) was wrecked in the Tokyo earthquake.
