Japanese to WW2

The Imperial Japanese Navy. The other Royal Navy and like Great Britain an island nation, Japan had fought naval actions against the Russians and alongside the Western allies in WW1. Modern well-equipped ships supported the worlds mightiest battleships and carriers by the late 1930s, but the island could not match the resources of the United States.
Named after a province on the northern tip of Honshu, and the sister ship of Nagato, converted and modernised 1934 to 1936 Mutsu exploded and sank in the Hiroshima Bay near Kure during 1943 The cause was an explosion in the after magazines likely to have been a failure in the handling or storage of cordite charges. Active at Midway and Guadacanal. American divers investigated the wreck in 1947 but were unable to find the after part of the hull - it had been completely destroyed.
