Rhenania RJ250 Dockwise Vanguard, the largest semi-submersible in the world 1/1250
A 1/1250 scale metal model of Dockwise Vanguard, a large semi-submersible ship designed to dock & lift some of the largest passenger ships in the world. Able to submerge the loading area to transport the largest oil rigs to anywhere in the world. This vessel can also be used for dry-docking and maintaining rigs in places where such facilities do not exist. This ship was "Plan B" for the Costa Concordia salvage, if the re-floated hulk could not have been transported to Genoa under tow.
Recently reported as operating off Curacoa, more famously she was stationed off Malta to act as a drydock to re-fit a rig that was too big to enter a dock in the Grand Harbour. More and more uses are being found for these extremely versatile vessels.
