Detailed model of the London Brighton & South Coast Railway class E1 0-6-0 tank engines designed by William Stroudley in 1874. The class was intended for local goods, shunting and piloting duties. Proving successful the class was expanded to 80 locomotives by 1891. Although withdraws started in 1908 30 locomotives entered British Railways stock in 1948, including four working goods services on the Isle of Wight.
One of four ex-LBSCR E1 class engines transferred to the Isle of Wight by the Southern Railway in 1932/3 number 1 Medina is finished in the late Southern green livery lettered BRITISH RAILWAYS in the Southern Railway sunshine lettering style.
