Built by the Hunslet Engine Company in 1953 for an order was placed by the National Coal Board works number 3782 was sent to the Markham Main Colliery at Armthorpe, near Doncaster. Arthur worked at Markham Main until 1976, being overhauled in 1972 and acquiring parts from sister locomotive 2688, becoming the last working NCB steam locomotive in the Doncaster area.
Stored out of use until 1978 Arthur passed through a couple of private collections before being purchased by members of the Buckinghamshire Railway Society, arriving at their Quainton Road base on the 1st of December 1979.
