Hunslet Engine Company works numbers 2704 and 2705 were built in 1945 under an order from the Ministry of Supply. 2705 was sent to the Ackton Hall Colliery Company at Featherstone near Pontefract and named Beatrice after the colliery managers' daughter. The engine was kept in pristine condition by the colliery company as they sought to gain the best possible compensation for the as-new locomotive at nationalisation. Overhauled at the Hunslet works in 1964 the engine returned to Ackton Hall fitted with the 'gas producer' firing system and finished in the NCB South Yorkshire area dark red livery.
Sold into preservation in 1976 and restored to service in 1982 at the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway 2706 Beatrice has been a regular member of the lines' steam fleet ever since, having last been overhauled in 2012.
