A signal box is possibly one of the most appealing structures on a railway, a building that is easily recognisable and unique, and one that has a clear purpose, that of keep the railway safe.

This new kit from Peco builds a generic style of signal box with a brick base and wooden cabin structure on top, as might have been built by one of the specialist signalling contractors and found along any of the railway companys' lines. This is a "mixed-media" kit, the top half is produced as a plastic injection moulding while the the brick base is assembled from laser-cut wooden parts. Provision has been made to include a brick chimney breast at the back of the box.
