This point motor is designed to operate with the lower current available from some European transformers or with DCC systems*. Operation is from a passing contact switch or probe and stud system to give a pulse from the 16v AC outlet found on most transformers. If this isn't available an uncontrolled 12v DC supply may suffice. A constant current would burn out the motor.
* Although the initial amperage from DCC systems is very high, say 10 amps, the final amps available to accessories such as point motors is very low, once the current has passed through the booster units used in DCC systems.
