Parkside Kits O Gauge PS44 GWR 20ton Toad Goods Train Brake Van diagram AA19 kit
221 of these vans were built between 1927 and 1931. Seen all over the GWR, and later BR Western Region. Examples lasted until the 1960s. Transfers for GWR and BR.
Supplied with metal wheels and 3 link couplings.
An excellent kit from Parkside for the distinctive GWR 20-ton goods brake van. A progressive design when first built in this form during the 1920's, the design remained almost unchanged until construction was ended about 1950 in favour of the standard BR type 20-ton brake van. In addition to preserved railways these vans could still be seen on the national network, serving as comfortable mess and tool vans with engineering trains into the 21st century.
It should be possible to adapt this kit to model a number of other GWR brake van diagrams as several differed only in internal details and fittings, however you will need to note where external changes occurred to the side sheeting (steel lower side panels), handrails (different knobs or fixings) and footboard brackets (shaped rods or angle iron) etc. Some of these can be altered while building this kit, while other features will be much more challenging to change.
Peco produce a kit W-601 for the earlier all-wood body 16 ton brake vans.
