Parkside Kits O Gauge PS18 LMS Meat Van O Gauge Wagon
Kit to build a model of an LMS design meat van to diagram D1670.
400 of these vans were built at Wolverton Works in 1927 and 1930 to carry fresh meat. Would run in express freight trains, but were fitted to work within passenger trains too. Lasted until 1960, by which time insulated vans had replaced them in meat traffic and were used as ventilated vans for general merchandise traffic. Transfers for LMS and BR.
Supplied with metal wheels and 3 link couplings.
The transport of meat required a specialised wagon with ventilation, insulation and interior cladding which could be cleaned easily and thoroughly.
These vehicles often had distinctive external features and add visual variety to goods trains, especially during the British Railways period when many ventilated meat vans were used in general merchandise service, so could appear in any goods train alongside the wide variety of designs from other companies.
