Modernised in the 1930's, Malaya retained her old shape. She served with the Fleets but also undertook convoy escort work during WW2.
Having been extensively damaged at Jutland, Malaya was a prime candidate for early re-building in the 1930's. Later trials showed the advantages of more extensive work which was applied on the refit of the other badly damaged Jutland victim, Warspite.
