John's Model Shipyard IJN303 Chokai a kit to make the WW2 Japanese heavy cruiser 1/1200
This kit of Chokai, a Japanese heavy cruiser of WW2, can be used to make a 1/1200 scale waterline model of either Chokai or its sistership Maya. They were both members of the Takao class but Maya and Chocai received less radical makeovers than their sisters Atago and Takao. The kit is 3D printed in resin by John's Model Shipyard No.IJN303.
Kit No.IJN301 makes the sisterships Takao and Atago.
Chokai was the flagship of the famous Japanese Admiral Tanaka. The large photograph is of one of these kits assembled and painted by Coastlines. As a weight-saving measure, most of Japan's cruisers were built with a tan-coloured linoleum on the weather decks instead of wood. When improved aircraft facilities were fitted to these ships, the decks in the aircraft handling area tended to be painted grey and the float-planes were wheeled around on tracks, as shown on this model.
