One of the independent train operators set up after the privatisation of the British rail network Fragonset Railways owned a number of locomotive and coaches for 'spot hire' and charter services.
During the summer months the Bristol to Weymouth Heart of Wessex line often sees an increase in passengers travelling to the seaside and Fragonset locomotive hauled trains operated on this route to provide the additional seating capacity for day-trip passengers. To mark this locomotive 31454 was named Heart of Wessex.
