Introduced in the 1950's�these DMU's replaced steam passenger trains on branch lines and local�services across the country. The ability to couple these trains together to form longer trains when needed�with just one driver and guard��made these units very flexible in service. The last units of this type were still in passenger service in 2000 and several sets have been preserved.
