The Festiniog & Blaenau Railway was a narrow gauge line built in 1868 connect the slate quarries around Tanymanod with the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog and the Festiniog Railway connection to the port of Porthmadoc. The line was purchased in 1878 by the Bala and Festiniog Railway, a standard gauge line backed by the GWR. The narrow gauge was converted to standard gauge in 1883, the last link of the line from Ruabon to Blaenau Festiniog via Bala and while the narrow gauge locomotives were sold to the Ruabon Cola & Coke company the rolling stock found no buyers and was broken up at Swindon.
Plastic is easy to work, so kits can be built to model the original wagon they are base on or modified during construction to create a unique custom vehicle. A believable wagon fleet for a fictitious narrow gauge railway can easily be created using these kits of real wagons and vans. The final designs can easily be changed in detail, or by using parts from other kits.
