Dundas Models OO9 DM06 Ore Hopper Wagon Snailbeach District Railways
Nicely detailed kit building a model of one of the Snailbeach District Railways ore and aggregate hopper wagons.
The stock of the Snailbeach District Railways was laterly almost entirely owned by the well-known light railway specialist Colonel Stephens. Two WD Baldwin 4-6-0 engines were used on this line.
Self-discharging hopper wagons offer greatly advantages for handling of basic minerals. In the case of the Snailbeach District Railways this was lead ore and roadstone aggregates. The SDR terminal with the GWR at Pontesbury had been built to operate hopper discharge from the beginning, with raised tracks arranged to discharge the hoppers directly into standard gauge wagons
