The British Railways standard design of cattle wagon was based on the GWR design dating back to 1888, updates with BR standard chassis design, roof profile and brake fittings. Like many of the similar GWR wagons the BR cattle wagons were equipped with vacuum train brakes, carrying the bauxite 'fitted' livery.
