Southdown Motor Services Ltd. was formed in 1915 as a merger between Brighton Hove and Preston United Omnibus Co., Sussex Tourist Coaches and the London and South Coast Haulage Co. Ltd. Southdown Motor Services acquired the new PD3, BUF 277C in 1965, one of the later buses to be produced by Leyland as production stopped in 1967, assigned the number 277, it was predominately used on very popular Brighton Routes until 1977, it was bought by OK Motor Services and entered service with OK in 1977. BUF 277C remained in service until 1989, it was then passed on to Northumbria Motor Services as a driver training vehicle until 1992 and subsequently went out for preservation back to it’s green and cream livery of it’s glory days and is now a regular at bus meets and shows across the UK.
