Coastlines 1/1250 CL-FG01 Admiral Gorshkov, Russian Frigate, c2022
Admiral Gorshkov is one of the most modern ships in the Navy of the Russian Federation. This 1/1250 scale waterline model has been 3D-printed in PLA plastic and is assembled and painted by Coastlines Models, CL-FG01.
Admiral Gorshkov was the name ship of a new class of an anti-submarine frigate. Construction started in 2009 in St. Petersburgh but the ship was to be powered by Gas Turbines built in Ukraine. When the Russian Federation invaded the Crimea Peninsular, Ukraine refused to hand over the turbines and the shipyard had to source other turbines from within the Russian Federation and Saturn turbines were fitted to this ship and her sister-ship. A further delay was caused by a fire in the engine room and an engine had to be taken from the sister-ship to allow Gorshkov to complete her trials.
In 2022, Gorshkov, in company with the Aircraft Carrier Admiral Kusnetsov and the tug Nikolai Chiker were refused transit of the Bosphorous by Turkey. In 2023, Gorshkov tried again, this time without Kusnetsov and in 2024, the newly commissioned sister-ship was refused passage while Gorshkov remained with the Northern Fleet. The third ship is reported to have been completed but not yet in service and many more have been ordered.
