The Patriots appeared to be a smaller version of the Royal Scot class locomotives and represented an intermediate step in design evolution, Sir William Stanier updating the deisgn with a more efficient tapered boiler to create the Jubilee class.
Bachmanns' model is powered by their usual combination of motor and diecast chassis, capable of hauling realistic length passenger trains. The bodyshell is finely detailed, with many separately fitted val;ve gear, pipework and handrail parts.
The Patriots served well into the British railways era, though being older than the Jubilees, were withdrawn first and none survived for preservation. A project currently is underway to build a new example of the class.
