Bachmann 38-700A BR 12-Ton Pipe Wagon Bauxite Brown Early OO
A highly detailed model of the BR design 12-ton pipe wagon painted in the early bauxite livery.
These long drop-side wagons were a useful high capacity open goods wagon originally designed to convey pipes. A large number were built in the 1950s as post-WW2 reconstruction got underway and the mains sewer network was expanded, modernised and pipes renewed.

Pipes and tubes?
Other than the length of the wagon (tube wagons are longer) the difference between a pipe and a tube is actually quite simple. A tube is a raw material, straight from the mill. A pipe is a finished product, for example fitted with end flanges ready for assembly. While tube wagons have always been used for steel traffic it is possible that pipe wagons were originally to be loaded with stoneware sewer pipes.
