Bachmann 38-578 BR 12 Ton Fish Van BR Bauxite (Late) Weathered OO
A new detailed model of the early LNER express fish vans, based on the standard box van wagon design, fitted with runnign gear more suited to running long distances at express goods train speed.
This model is painted in bauxite livery with the later style of lettering used by British Railways.
Era 5
Primarily, the fish vans were used to transport fish from Hull, Grimsby and the other major fishing ports on the North East coast to the markets of the major conurbations such as London, Manchester and Birmingham as well as the more obvious towns and cities serviced directly by the NER, such as Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield. They were a significant part of the east coast fish traffic fleet and as fish was a perishable product, they were priority traffic.
