Bachmann OO 31-635B GWR 6414 64xx Class 0-6-0PT Auto-Pannier Green Lettered G W R
The GWR 64xx pannier tank engines were built for working pull-push or auto trains over more challengingly graded routes or where more than 2 trailer coaches were regularly needed and services often taxed the capabilities of the 0-4-2T engines. The extra power of the 64xx also allowed extra trailing loads like milk tankers and parcels vans to be hauled.
This Bachmann model nicely replicates the detail of the class, slightly smaller than the 57xx and an ideal choice for a branch passenger engine. 6414 is finished in Great Western green livery lettered G W R.
The GWRs' 64xx class of pannier tank locomotives was designed specifically to provide a locomotive for push-pull 'auto train' working which delivered more power than the 0-4-2 tank engines. The engines met the operating departments requirements for up to four trailer coaches to be hauled during peak hours and for introducing the more economical auto-train working over routes with stiffer gradients than the 4-coupled engines could manage.
The addition of this locomotive to the Bachmann range nicely complements the 57xx/8750 class shunting engines to further increase the variety of GWR branchline motive power. Bachmann are also producing a model of one of the later design of auto trailer coaches to complement these engines.
