Albatros 1/1250 Alk343 HMS Leopard F14 waterline model of air defence frigate 1958

A 1/1250 scale metal waterline model of F14 HMS Leopard, a type 41 diesel-powered air defence frigate by Albatros SM Alk 343. The models is sharly cast with brass gun barrels and aerials and nicely painted with dark green decks, see photograph.

These ships were a first attempt to produce a diesel powered air defence frigate and were good ships by the standards of the day. Changes to radar and the cumbersome 4.5" gun turrets led to the programme being cut short in favour of the Type 61 Salsbury's with improved radar and the after turret replaced by rapid firing smaller calibre guns on the same hull. Four ships were finished for the Royal Navy and one was completed for India. Two of the RN ships were transferred to Banaladesh in the late 1970s.
