Her sister, Lusitania was sunk during WW1 but Mauritania soldiered on after WW1 and was converted to oil burning to reduce operating costs. Only a couple of years before withdrawal, she made her fastest crossing of the Atlantic, within a whisker of the record set by Bremen but the Great Depression caught up with her and when no-one wanted to emigrate to America, she became uneconomic to operate (along with the ex-German liners of the same vintage) and was scrapped to make way for Queen Mary.
