Accurascale OO H4-AB14-006 Andrew Barclay 2069 Little Barford 14in 0-4-0ST Blue Wasp Stripe Ends
A detailed and smooth running OO gauge model of the Andrew Barclay 14in cylinder 0-4-0 saddle tank industrial shunting engine. These engines shared a distinctive flat-sided saddle tank profile with other Kilmarnock locomotive builders, with the Andrew Barclay company being among the most prolific of the British locomotive builders.
Andrew Barclay 2069 Little Barford was well-known to steam enthusiasts in the London area, working at Acton Lane power station until 1980 and finished in this light blue livery with wasp-striped ends. Now preserved 2069 Little Barford is working in Norfolk.
Originally this 1939 built engine had been sent to Little Barford power station, hence her name. She moved to Acton Lane via Goldington power station in 1965 and worked there until the 1980s. The locomotives' livery of light blue with wasp-striped end reflects the mix of traditional light blue paints for the generating board locomotives and growing safety concerns in the industrial environment through the 1970s causing a steam locomotive to have visibility markings more usually associated with diesel traction.
Following retirement the engine has been based at several heritage railways including the Foxfield and Mid-Suffolk Railways, though is believed to be currently operational at the Fengate Agricultural Light Railway in Norfolk, now in a pleasing lined black livery and with proper cast name plates instead of the painted-on name from CEGB service.
