Coastlines CL-B02c Thames Staysail Barge under sail 1/1250
A 1/1250 scale model of a Thames staysail barge modelled under full sail by Coastlines Models CL-B02c
The set of the sails differs from model to model These barges could be found on coastal trading voyages from Norfolk to Devon and, on occasion, they crossed the English Channel.
Painted details such as the hatch covers and the ship's gig vary so that several models can be displayed together. New sails were usually in natural canvas for the first year but they were treated with red lead oxide to prevent rot for the second season and this darkened as the years went by. The staysail barges usually had a larger crew to handle the sails in open water but the stem head barges could be handled in inland waters by one man & a boy. This model is under 25mm in length
