Dapol 4F-038-005 GWR 20-Ton Steel Bodied Open Coal Wagon
The GWR was a great promoter of larger capacity wagons in the 1930s, by which time the company already had many of these 20-ton capacity wagons in their own service as both 'traffic' or locomotive coal wagons and leased wagons to several South Wales collieries.
The GWR offered lower rates per ton on coal in 20-ton wagons, but with receiving facilities built on the basis of 10-ton wagons only larger customers (gas works, power stations etc.) could efficiently deal with 20-ton loads. BR later compromised, standardising on a 16-ton capacity wagon.
Dapol have updated the chassis to incorporate NEM coupler pockets.
