Bachmann Branchline OO 32-178A LMS Crab 13174 LMS Lined Black. Designed by George Hughes at the former Lancashire & Yorkshire Railways' Horwich works these engines featured noticibly inclined cylinders, allowing large diameter cylinders to be used. Allied to a large diameter boiler this provided a powerful locomotive well suited to the requirements of the LMS Railway. Generally considered to be a 'class 5' engine the Crab was one of the first modern locomotive designs in the LMS fleet and some duties the 'crab' was preferred even to the later and highly regarded Stanier 'Black 5'.Built from 1926 to 1932 these engines remained in service until the mid-1960s.
