Navis Neptun 1/1250 1193 HMS Tyne, a WW2 Destroyer Depot Ship
Able to carry essential supplies for a whole flotilla, purpose built ships of this type could be deployed to forward areas, often helping as AA ships in convoys as they were moved about!
Tyne was built at Scotts and launched 28th February 1940. She served with the home fleet until 1944 when transferred to the Pacific fleet. Her sister, Hecla was sunk by U515 west of Gibraltar, 12th November 1942. The pair, displaced 12500 tons, carried 8 - 4.5" guns plus numerous AA and had a 17 knot top speed.
