This is particularly effective with the new generation of N gauge coaching stock fitted with flexible coupler mountings which bring corridor connections closer together while allowing couplings to extend on curves.Always test your train formations over the smallest radius curve you will be using to determine if 2 short, 2 long or a 'short+long' combination is required as a minimum spacing for reliable running.Wagons and coaches fitted with these non-working couplers are usually more resistant to accidental uncoupling, but these couplers cannot be worked remotely, so are not advised for vehicles which need to be detached or shunted. Couplers can be coupled and uncoupled by hand by lifting the vehicle so the couplers part vertically.
