Steam Towboats like the Taurus were a familiar sight in every American harbour in the early 20th century. While no longer in commercal service a few steam tugs survive today as museum exhibits.
Model Shipways Taurus, an authentic turn-of-the-century wooden towboat is fun and easy to build.
Kit includes a machine carved solid wood waterline hull, laser cut cabin, and pilot house with plank-scored siding. It comes complete with doors, windows, lanterns, steam pipe and whistle... all in lead-free Britannia metal. Railing and stack guys are brass.

Model Shipways MS2016 1/64 Scale 'Sultana'
Classic Solid Hull Kit

The Model Shipways Sultana features a machine carved basswood hull that requires only light shaping and sanding. Other wooden parts, including the 2-1/8" ship's boat, are laser cut for a perfect fit.
Plank-scored decking, spars, wood materials and eight cast metal swivel guns are all included.
For historical accuracy, original rigging is duplicated with scale rigging line and 67 wooden blocks.

Model Shipways Willie L. Bennett kit is based on the craft discovered in 1954.
You'll build your model the way the real Willie L. Bennett was built, following the plank-on-bulkhead techniques used on life-sized skip-jacks. To make building easy, we've supplied laser cut wooden molds, keelson and transom. Basswood is used throughout. Outfit your craft with cast Britannia metal anchor, ship's wheel and deck machinery. Deadeyes and blocks are wood, and there's plenty of brass for eyes, hoops, rings and chain. Sail cloth and rigging line complete your model.
The 56 page instruction book by Ben Lankford gives you a wealth of detail with lots of photographs and drawings. Model Shipways provides three sheets of plans that are so accurate that you could almost build a real skipjack using them.

Plank on Frame Kit

Model Shipways’ historically accurate kit recreates Picket Boat No. 1 in great detail. Plans are taken from research done by the History Channel for its 2005 program, 'The Most Daring Mission of the Civil War'.
You’ll build your model much the same way as the real boat was built almost 150 years ago, using many of the same materials. Only your job will be much easier, thanks to the laser cut basswood parts and ready-made fittings, 5 large sheets of plans and illustrated step-bystep instruction manual. Laser-cut basswood parts facilitate plankon- frame interior construction. High quality, flexible basswood strips are supplied for hull planking. Britannia metal fittings, brass and aluminum parts are used for deck furnishings, including a miniature steam engine, pump and 12-pounder Dahlgren Howitzer.

Plank on Frame Ship Kit

Designed by master ship modeler Chuck Passaro, the longboat is a true plank-on-frame model, built much like the real longboats of the 18th century.
The kit uses the finest laser cut basswood for false keel, ribs, locker, floorboards and thwarts. Other materials include brass strips, belaying pins, eyebolts and nails, wooden blocks and deadeyes, black and tan rigging line plus cast metal anchor. Preprinted side friezes and stern decorations are included as well.
Two sheets of plans and a 20-page illustrated instruction manual address every detail of construction.
