N gauge modellers have benefitted from Japanese model railway technology for many years, including the highly effective Tomix track cleaner car. Dapol have produced a OO/HO version of this track cleaning unit, offering cleaning, polishing and vacuum functions to keep your track in top conditon.
A spelection of tool attachments are supplied, an abrasive pad to remove corrosion and heavy dirt deposits and a polishing pad to clear up and remove fresh deposits. This keeps your track clean, ensuring good electrical connectivity for your trains. Finally the internal motor runs a vacuum system which collects loose dirt and grit from your track, so it won't find its' way into locomotive drive gears. An on-board cleaning fluid reservoir allows a plastic-safe cleaning fluid to be stored and dispensed through the cleaning head, helping to remove grease and oil deposits.
The track cleaner is equiped with an 8 pin DCC decoder socket, allowing DCC users to have full control over the motor speed at all times. An on/off switch is provided for use with DC control so the motor can be shut off when not required.ï¿½ NEM coupling pockets allow the car to be used with almost any coupling system, including tension lock, knuckle and pocket type couplings.
Please note that the motor drives the track cleaning/polishing and vacuum mechanisms inside the car; the car is not self-propelled and must be hauled or pushed by a locomotive.
Following the release of the Dapol B800 track cleaning car Dapol are releasing a comprehensive spares packÂ which will be required for the continuedÂ operation of the cleaner.
The pack includes replacament cleaning heads, washers and seals for the vacuum system, replacement fan and many more parts.
A new multi-gauge loco-lift design is being developed by Peco to replace the OO/HO-only SL-43.
The concept behind the new loco lift design is that it will be adjustable, suitable for N, OO-9, HOn3, HOm and OO/HO trains. The units will require some assembly, but being very easy to construct the modeller can set the gauge according to their needs. A basic single unit loco-lift, PT-60, will accommodate a small OO/HO locomotive such as an 0-6-0 shunter or tank engine, but adjusted for N scale a longer locomotive such as a Pacific type will fit very easily. A twin-unit PT-61, comprising two single units which are designed to be joined will be perfect for longer OO/HO locomotives, or even a short train when adjusted for N. Peco expect to be releasing these new loco-lift units during the summer.
