A detailed working model of a Southern Railway lattice post upper quadrant starter signal.
(Details to be confirmed - We believe this may be a lower height signal for improved close view, as at platform ends)
The lattice posts were usually built up from light iron or steel section such as angle iron, secured together and braced with diagonal strapping.

A detailed working model of a GWR lower quadrant junction signal with two arms, the lower arm offset on a bracket to the right to indicate a route diverging to the right of the main line.
Junction signals were used to indicate to the driver which route his train was being sent over, allowing him to control the trains speed as appropriate for a junction or stopping point like a bay platform.
The operating mechanism uses servo motors in an enclosure which is fitted to the bottom of the signal post after the threaded base section has been secured through the baseboard.

A detailed working model of a GWR lower quadrant signal mounted on a bracket offset to the right of the main post.
Bracket signals were used in locations where the main signal post could not be placed in the right location for good sighting by a driver. This was common at the ends of station platforms, the bracket placed the signal high overhead and close to the track while the post was set back so passengers could pass it safely.
The operating mechanism uses a servo motor in an enclosure which is fitted to the bottom of the signal post after the threaded base section has been secured through the baseboard.

Dapol have announced the addition of GWR and BR design ground or shunt signals to their range of operating signals in O gauge.
The new signals will operate using Dapol's tried and tested servo control system and as with all the other servo actuated signals these will come with almost everything you need to set them up in the box. For the modeller who really doesn't like soldering there is a 2m plug and play extension cable (4A-000-014) available to help reach between the signal and your control centre.

Twin disc signals were used where a shunt move might have two possible routes, eg. out towards the running line or into the yard. These were often stacked so as to fit in the clearance space between two tracks. Most commonly the upper disc applied to the 'main' route, for example out to the running line, but could also apply to the routes left to right where there is not a 'main' route. Drivers are expected to know what each signal means!
