Class 66 EMD locomotives

EMD's European freight locomotive. Ordered by the Wisconsin Central RR for their new British subsidiary EWS, as the owners of the pre-privatisation freight and parcels sector  'shadow franchises' these heavy freight diesel locomotives built on the preceding class 59 designed for Foster Yeoman. Quickly establishing a reputation for haulage capability and reliability 651 examples have been built for operators in the UK and in mainland Europe.

Designed by Electro-Motive to fit within the British loading gauge 250 locomotives were ordered for EWS, the British subsidiary of the Wisconsin Central RR and principal freight operator after the privatisation.

GB Railfreight (GBRf) was formed in 1999, a completely new rail freight company. Ordering class 66 locomotives these were painted in a deep blue livery with orange cab sides.
In 2012 to mark a 10-year partnership with the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) 66709 was finished with a special livery featuring a full-side image of a container ship.
