SU-85 - the average mass Soviet self-propelled artillery installation, belonging to the class of tank destroyers. SU-85 was actively and successfully used from September 1943 until the end of World War II. Machines were produced at the Ural Heavy Engineering Plant (Uralmash) from August 1943 to July 1944, a total of 2,337 self-propelled guns were built. The 85-mm D-5C gun allowed the SU-85 to effectively fight the enemy’s medium tanks at distances of more than a kilometer, and to penetrate the frontal armor of heavy tanks at shorter distances.
