Loreley had been built in Britain as the steam yacht Mohecan but was purchased for the German navy, armed as a gunboat, and sent to Istanbul (then Constantinople) as station boat to represent the German nation in Turkey. She served in a variety of roles showing the flag and entertaining famous visitors in the eastern Mediterranean until the end of WW1. Among her captains was Ludwig von Reuter (1909). After the war, she was sold as a small freighter to Turkish interests and disappeared on a voyage in 1926.
