The Flak 18/36/37/43 series of 3.7cm anti-aircraft cannons were produced by Germany through WW2. The cannon was fully automatic and effective against aircraft flying at altitudes up to 4,200 m / 13,500ft. The cannon was produced in both towed and self-propelled versions and with a flexible doctrine the Germans used their anti-aircraft guns in ground support roles as well.
The Flak 43 was a dramatic improvement over older models, a new gas-operated breech increased the practical firing rate to 150 RPM while at the same time dropping in weight to 1,250 kg deployed and 2,000 kg for transport. The gun was also redesigned for ease of production. Many Flak 43s were mounted on the ubiquitous SdKfz 7 half-track, or later the converted Panzer IVs, first the Möbelwagen and later Ostwind.
