During WW2 this Gibbs & Cox designed liner served as the troop transport USS West Point before reverting to the name America as a transatlantic liner in 1946. In the 1960s she was sold to Chandris Lines and re-named Australis for use on the Australia run before becoming a cruise ship in 1978 bearing the name America once more
