Stena Line were pioneers in the use and development of wave-piercing catamaran ferries and hold several patents for this type of vessel. Stena Carisma was the first of the 900 class of HSS vessels to be built but the shipyard went into receivership before the second ship was completed and she was scrapped on the slipway. Stena Carisma was used on services between Denmark and Sweden.
