Oxford Diecast 1/72 72DR001 De Havilland DH Dragon Rapide BEA Diecast Model
Oxford Diecast 1/72 De Havilland DH Dragon Rapide BEA Diecast Model 72DR001
An excellent diecast metal model of the DH Dragon Rapide in BEA colours. The De Havilland Dragon Rapide was designed by De Havilland in late 1933 for use as a British short-haul passenger airliner.,Taking its flight in 1934 and entering service with Hillman Airways, the twin engined aircraft, with its tapered wings, streamlined fairings, speed and comfort, was probably the most successful British short haul commercial passenger plane of the 1930s. Over 700 were built, a third of which were used by civil airlines, including BEA the livery chosen for this first release of what is a newly tooled model. The RAF also made use of the type, during WWII, for passenger and communications use, while the Royal Navy had slightly modified Rapides renamed as Dominies that were involved in radio and navigation training.
Rapides survive to day and are much admired by aviation enthusiasts and Oxford have done a good job with this rather nice model.
