Representing the last in the Ford of Great Britain Cortina series, the Mk5 was the end of an era which had spanned two decades from the 1960s into the 1980s. The Mk5, launched in August 1979, incorporated a wealth of external improvements over its predecessor the Mk IV, including the square headlights in the wide slatted radiator grille, a flattened roof, slimmer C-pillars and revised vent cover. These are all faithfully reproduced on our1:76 scale model.

Ford marketed the Mk5 as a medium sized family car priced at just under £3500 but it had a 2.3 litre V6 engine, electronic ignition and a slight boost in power output to 116 bhp, so it had plenty of oomph!

Oxford's model is registered NNK 52V from 1979, the first year of production. This time it is decorated in beige with a chestnut brown interior and masses of heavy black exterior trim including the side sills and radiator grille. An extra detail includes the 1.6GL printed in silver on the boot lid. Ford added one important extra - improved corrosion protection, which is probably a factor in their still being seen today.
